چکیده

Porous titanium and Ti6Al4V alloy, biomedical candidate materials for use in orthopedic and dental implants, were manufactured by sintering the powders at various temperatures in loose condition. The characteristics of the corresponding powders and utilized sintering temperatures limited the final porosities in the range 30-37.5 vol. %. Similar to wrought alloys, compression stress-strain curves of porous samples exhibited 3 distinct deformation regions containing an elastic region, subsequent to yielding strain hardening region up to a peak stress and fast fracture after small straining. The mechanical properties of porous samples of both types were observed to obey minimum solid area (MSA) models in which the bond regions between particles perpendicular to loading direction are assumed to dominate in transmission of stress. A linear relation was obtained between yield strength and square of neck size ratio, (X/D), where X and D represent the average neck and particle diameters, respectively.

Effects of compaction pressure and particle shape on the porosity and compression mechanical properties of sintered Ti6Al4V powder compacts for hard tissue implantation.

Sintered Ti6Al4V powder compacts potentially to be used in implant applications were prepared using commercially available spherical and angular powders (100-200 mum) within the porosity range of 34-54%. Cylindrical green powder compacts were cold compacted at various pressures and then sintered at 1200 degrees C for 2 h. The final percent porosity and mean pore sizes were determined as functio...

Argon-shielded hot pressing of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) powders.

The paper presents the method of the argon - shielded hot pressing of titanium alloy (Ti6A14V) powder (used in medical industry). The powders produced in the GA (gas atomization) process and in the HDH (hydride - dehydride) process were used in the experiments. A pressing process was conducted at a temperature of 800-850 degrees C for different lengths of time. An unoxidized sintered material, ...

Mechanical properties and microstructural evolution of vacuum hot-pressed titanium and Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy.

Hot-pressing is a powder metallurgy process where loose powder is loaded into a mould, usually of graphite, and sintered by the simultaneous application of high temperature and pressure. In this study elemental titanium and Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy powders are hot-pressed under different conditions in order to study the influence of the processing parameters on the microstructure and mechanical propert...
